Dear Division 2 parents and students,

Thanks everyone for picking up your supplies.  In math we will be working out of Jump Math book with the geometry sets I put in your bags.

Division 3 Week Plan April 27- May 1, 2020:

This week we start our new research projects on:

Grade 6 – The World Health Organization
            Grade 7 – Ancient Rome

Projects will be done on slideshow and emailed to Mr. Sullivan by: May 8, 2020
Submissions emailed to: suclavin3@gmail.com

• Grade7-Ancient Rome: Timeline of major events (starting with founding of Rome 753 BCE) and a map of Empire at height of Rome. Then pick one person, event or structure to write about (limit yourself to 6 facts and 2 slides)

There is an abundance of information on both topics.  This is meant to be a brief synopsis of both topics, giving a general understanding of the material.  I will speak further Tuesday about the projects.

Continue reading and do a journal entry twice a week

Dear Division 2 parents and students,

Please email mmarshall@sd46.bc.ca to let the office know you will be picking up your supplies on April 23.  More notes about supplies at bottom of this post.

Career projects were due: Friday April 17, 2020.  If you have not submitted your assignments email them to:

suclavin3@gmail.com

Division 2 Week Plan April 20-25, 2020:

This week will be different.  You will have set activities to do each day.

• Monday: Write about a strange dream you have had or create a microfiction about being in isolation.  Be ready to share your ideas on Zoom Tuesday.
• Tuesday: If you haven’t started reading a book read then do a journal response about your reading.  This will be an ongoing assignment.
• Wednesday: Write a quatrain poem about a significant adult in your life
• Thursday: Read, then do a journal response about your reading.
• Friday: Find a way to connect with at least three friends (phone, Zoom, videogame, etc.)

For Math this week:

Vertical, Supplementary and Complementary Angles and Missing Angle Problems

We will be using Khan Academy.  You will need to scroll down to geometry and pass the circle and circumference unit.  This is listed as a grade 7 unit, but we will be doing it for both grade 6 & 7.

There are video and activities on this site.  It should give you several days of math as you watch the videos and do the activities.  The videos are on the left and practice on the right.  They are self-marking, so you will get immediate feedback as you work along.  If you find it too difficult to navigate, I will check in and go through these activities and videos on Tuesday’s Zoom meeting.

Next week we will be able to hop into our Jump books as we will all have our supplies.  I have also given every student a brand new geometry kit that we will be using extensively for math.  Please email mmarshall@sd46.bc.ca to let the office know you will be picking up your supplies on April 23.  Our scheduled pick up time is: 12:15-1:00.

Math Bonus Problems

Do not use protractors to solve.  These diagrams are not accurate.  These problems were meant to be solved using knowledge of angles and by doing calculations.  I will post detailed solutions at the end of the week.

Week Plan April 14-17, 2020

Dear Division 2 parents and students,

Each week I will give a list of activities to be done, during the week, in addition to larger ongoing projects.  Thank you to those who have already submitted your career project.  It was good to explore myBlueprint again.  Do not forget to submit your career project by: Friday April 17, 2020.  Submission email: suclavin3@gmail.com

I will be typically assigning seven activities a week that you can select five of.  This shorter week you only need to complete 4.  Math will be slightly different, as I will give specific directions, give links to videos or do a lesson via Zoom.  Sometime this coming week students will pick up their supplies, which includes their math books and geometry sets, from Gibsons Elementary.  Once we have those supplies we will be better equipped to progress through units.  I will offer office hours between 10-11 Monday to Thursday.  If you need assistance email me and we can contact and figure the best way to get you through any difficulties.  My contact email is esullivan@sd46.bc.ca.

 Division 2 Week Plan April 14-April 17, 2020:

• Write a journal entry, as to how you are feeling and what you have been doing in isolation.
• View an advertisement on TV, online, or in a magazine. Explain how the creators try to influence their audience. Who is their audience? How might other audiences respond? What information is missing or mis-represented?
• Interview a family member or friend about an experience they had or something they know a lot about. Take notes. How will you share what you learned with others?
• Choose a character from a book. Design a T-shirt for the character to wear or a picture with thought bubbles that tell something about what that character thinks/does.
Read a story and write a summary of the story (may be used for later assignment on book reviews)
• Record yourself playing your instrument and send that video to Mr. Angelus.  Remember his rules: no faces and no full names on the recording.  Say your first name and the title of the piece you are playing.
Conduct a Zoom meeting with at least 3 in a group and each person tell their 2 favourite places on the Sunshine Coast and why.  Be ready to tell about, memories, experiences and things of particular interest.

For Math this week:
Please the first 2 math videos

Run through the following vocabulary sheets and matching activity. Then match words-to descriptors-to diagram activity all of which were emailed to you.

Watch these next videos

Then complete the following math worksheets at the following link and the worksheets the vertical angle worksheets emailed:

New Zoom Meeting

Our regular Zoom Meeting time will be Tuesday at 10am.  I will get sign in codes out for that soon..

This Week at Thursday at 11, we will have a Zoom meeting for everyone to socialize.  Be ready to talk to favourite memories of the year to date and talk about what you have been up to in isolation.   Know there was a bit of a mess with different meeting times and codes.  I will be better next time.  I was going to post it here, but I was told that is a bad idea.

I will email the details out today and I will make sure to log in and start the meeting with the same info and codes everyone has.

Thanks again for today's meeting.  It was productive in setting meeting rules and procedures, and we covered a lot in terms of how we will proceed as a class through this weird time.

First Remote Learning Project

Career Project

Using the website My Blueprint as a primary source and other sites on the web, students will research a career of choice.

Each student will:
-Describe the career and tell why it may be a good fit
-Investigate post secondary training, the costs associated, whether they offer residence, etc.
-How the student would achieve this goal: student loans,  RESP's, summer work, part-time work
-Employment projections
-How much someone in that career could typically make a year

Students will prepare their presentation on Google Slide and email their slides to:
suclavin3@gmail.com

Due Date: Friday April 17, 2020

Welcome to Our New Normal

I thought I would restart my old blog as a way to keep in touch and have everyone informed of what we are currently working on.  I will also post some pictures highlighting the great events from the year.
