Division 2 Functional Shutdown Plan

We have been working on getting 2 weeks of material together in anticipation of a functional shutdown.  The activities will be available online most likely via the school website.  They were designed to be able to be done independent of assistance.  Your child can select appropriate actives to complete from the list of prepared tasks.  The activities WILL NOT be submitted for assessment.  Textbooks, resources, etc. will NOT be needed for the functional shutdown.

We will not necessarily be meeting as a class via Zoom during this time.  This is meant as a short term stop gap until we can reconvene as a class.

Division 2 Long Term Shutdown Plan

I have been planning for this possibility since the beginning of the year.  The switch over should hopefully be seamless.  This would only come in if there was an provincial health order to do a circuit beaker shutdown of all schools.

During this long term shut down we will arrange for all students come in and pick up their textbooks (Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math) at home for this model to work effectively.

We will do Zoom a couple times a week for lessons and there will be additional Zoom tutorials for mathematics.

Language Arts: 

Writing: our next unit was going to be on micro fiction.  I will be giving assignments and giving a lesson on Zoom.  The students will virtually share writing in breakout groups.  The next unit will be on poetry using the same instructional model.

Reading:  We will continue work on our independent novel study projects as well as some read and respond work sent via Google Classroom.

Math: Ideally we will continue working in our math groups.  If this does not work we will shift to a classroom model out of Jump Math supplemented with Khan Academy.

Social Studies: We will continue working out of our Social Studies textbook

Science: We will continue working out of our science text.

Art: Will be done independently at home.

PE: Will be done independently at home.

Career Education:  Career project will be assigned and will be done and submitted using Google Slides.

French:  We will do lessons via Zoom and have a practical/conversational session in breakout groups.
